Motomachi, the latest Japanese Restaurant and Patisserie has opened its doors in Festival City. The interiors are very earthy as the benches and most of the work is of wood. You can spot a lot of Japanese architecture in the design as well. The outdoor dining has a view of the newly opened fountain and laser show.

Kobachi (Small Plates)

We ordered Hotate Yaki – Grilled scallops with butter soy sauce. The butter made the scallops more juicy and tender.

The other dish was Tori Gyoza – which is pan fried chicken dumpling. It had its own dipping sauce and was done very well.

Main course

Miso Ramen – Miso soup ramen noodles with chicken breast and stir fried bean sprout. It also had marinated boiled egg which we excluded from the dish. The bowl was big enough for 2.

Yakiniku – Grilled thin marinated slice of beef, lettuce, and onion in Yakiniku sauce. We also got the famous California Maki rolls. Both the rolls were decent.

One of the signature dishes of Matomachi – Black Cod. It was the star dish of the night. The Black cod was grilled to perfection and it was greased with miso. Enjoyed every bite!

Taiyaki is a Japanese fish-shaped cake. The most common filling is red bean paste that is made from sweetened azuki beans. We ordered the Nutella and Custard ones. Mr. A was expecting is to be much tastier!

Mochi Puff was kind of bland. It had a stuffing of some sort but it was still dry and not sweet. It was a miss!

The Fruits Parfait was way better. A huge glass with a lot of ingredients. Cake, pudding, mousse, ice cream, syrup and fruits. We would highly recommend it!!

If you are in Festival City and in the mood for some Authentic Japanese feel and food, do stop by Motomachi. A lot of their staff is also from Japan! Also, check out the Patisserie at the entrance if you’d like to try out Japanese desserts.
